For this week's KSFY Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week, we head to Vermillion to meet Justin Sorensen.
Justin is a runner in both Cross Country and Track. He also plays basketball and is a member of the National Honor Society among many others. In the classroom, he maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Sorensen told KSFY News time flies when you're a senior at Vermillion High School.
"It definitely went fast. I can still remember my freshman year. It was a big change," Senior Justin Sorensen said.
Now, he says, it's almost time to begin a new chapter.
"I'm looking forward to it. Still looking at colleges, not decided yet but getting there. Looking forward to it," Sorensen said.
In the meantime, though, you won't find this senior slacking off. He's got plenty of course work to keep himself challenged.
"AP Bio, College Algebra at USD online and I'm also taking AP Lit through Mount Marty with a teacher here. I'm also taking personal finance," Sorensen said.
VHS Principal Curt Cameron says Justin is a great representative of the school.
"Justin is an outstanding young man. He works hard at his academics. He's a leader among his peers at Vermillion HS .With what he does in the community is very important for not only Justin but for his family who, I'm sure, are very proud of him," VHS Principal Curt Cameron said.
He tells us he's still undecided about where he'll be this time, next year.
"I'm thinking science like biology or medical tech. Something like that. Also, hopefully as of right now I'll be running at the college level."
He looks forward to what's next but will always look forward to coming home.
"I'm going to miss it quite a bit. I was born here in Vermillion. Lived here all my life. I had a lot of good times here," Sorensen said
For being named our Scholar of the Week, Justin receives a $100 scholarship from Clay-Union Electric Corporation which is a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
