PARKSTON, S.D. (KSFY) - Kim Weber is now a senior at Parkston High School.
As our very first Scholar of the Week of the 2018-19 school year, she's setting the bar high as a student who maintains a 4.0 GPA, excels in the classroom, on the music stage and the volleyball court.
Kim Weber tells KSFY News she can't believe she's already a senior.
"It's been pretty quick, honestly, I didn't expect it to go this fast," Parkston Senior Kim Weber said.
She has stayed very busy from band to choir, volleyball to FCA among many others. She also took three dual credit college courses.
"I know later in life, it'll be more difficult, more challenging. I'm up for it. I've tried to prepare myself by being more active. I think it'll pay off later," Weber said.
Parkston mathematics teacher Melissa Schnabel has nothing but good things to say about Kim.
"She works hard. Is always willing to help others and always has her work done, every single day," Math Teacher Melissa Schnabel said.
She adds that Kim stands out at Parkston High School.
"She strives for excellence. It's just her nature," Schnabel said. "She will succeed in what she does, and do it well. She has the drive to do things on her own and the want to succeed and better herself."
"The teachers have really helped me get a good schedule going so I'm prepared to go to college, have that experience, the background information to apply myself later in college," Weber said.
Speaking of college, Kim is planning on four years at the University of South Dakota.
"I've always wanted to go to the medical field, I've joined (Health Occupation Students of America). I'm thinking cardiac ultrasound," Weber said. "I have really great teachers and classmates who pushed me to be the best I can be and help me prepare for the years to come."
For being named our Scholar of the Week, Kim receives a $100 scholarship from Southeastern Electric Co-Op which is a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
