LAKE PRESTON, S.D. (KSFY) - This week, we're headed to Lake Preston to meet Lexie Larsen who enters her senior year with a 3.90 GPA. She's a volleyball player, basketball player, cheerleader, member of the band and chorus with too many accomplishments to list.
According to her teachers, Lexie Larsen is a one-of-a-kind senior at Lake Preston.
"I keep myself organized and always try to get my assignments done," Lexie Larsen said.
On top of her regular coursework, she's enrolled in some dual-credit college courses, too.
"It really helps you get ready for your future in college. The classes, they're also cheaper to take in high school which is one of the main reasons I did that too to get a jump start in college," Larsen said.
Teachers are also helping Lexie prepare for a life outside Lake Preston.
"She's a joy to have in class. I wish all students were like Lexie," Lake Preston math and computer teacher Alecia Erstad said.
"She really is self-determined, self-driven. Sometimes things don't come as easy but she works harder than everyone else which is why she does succeed," Erstad said.
Lexie is still keeping her options open for college and a future career. Right now, she's intrigued by the College of Pharmacy program at SDSU. One thing's for certain, though, she's really enjoyed the last three years at Lake Preston High School.
"The relationships I've built with teachers, kids here and the sports especially too. Being from a small school, you have a lot of opportunities to be in many sports which is another thing I'm really going to miss," Larsen said.
For being named our Scholar of the Week, Lexie received a $100 scholarship from Kinsbury Electric Cooperative which is a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
