Our Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week, October 7th, is Morgan Roe. She's a senior at Florence High School.
Morgan maintains a 4.0 GPA while running track, playing basketball, singing with the choir and she's a member of 4-H. She's a student who believes hard work will take you far.
"It's very important to work hard because if you don't, you'll drop down below where you have been. When you do work hard, people expect it all the time. If you slack off, you don't get the same grades you have," Florence High School Senior Morgan Roe said.
Her older sister is a big inspiration.
"Watching her work hard for her grades made me want to work hard and accomplish good grades myself," Roe said.
Morgan will graduate high school in the spring with credit from three college courses, including speech and psychology.
"So I know what I'm doing in college and I get a feel for it, for the money aspect... it's much cheaper in high school," Roe said.
Teachers say one thing setting Morgan apart from her classmates is that she's a quiet leader.
"She goes about her business, gets the job done. She suffered an injury last year during the ball season -- you never saw her personality waiver at all. That shows a lot of great characteristics here in Florence," Middle/High School Principal Matt Bastian said. "She's a terrific student. She's a great role model for the younger kids. We share a building with the elementary.. we love having that interaction with the younger kids -- one they will miss next year as well."
Speaking of next year, Morgan tells KSFY News she has her mind made up.
"I'm going to University of Mary in Bismarck for Exercise Science and then I'll go into Physical Therapy," she said. "I'm looking forward to meeting new people. With a small school, I've been here with the same people for so many years. It'll be nice to have new people around."
For being named a KSFY Touchstone Energy Scholar of the Week, Morgan receives a $100 scholarship from Codington-Clark Electric Cooperative which is a local Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
