I-29 near Elk Point back open following semi crash

ELK POINT, S.D. (KSFY) - UPDATE, 6:30 a.m.

Northbound traffic on I-29 near Elk Point is back open after it was temporarily closed due to an accident.

According to the Highway Patrol, a semi crashed near mile marker 24 early Wednesday morning. Troopers have not said whether anyone was hurt in the wreck.

Both northbound lanes of the Interstate were temporarily closed between the Elk Point and Vermillion exits, but troopers re-opened one northbound lane by about 6:30 a.m.

Crews are still working to clear wreckage from the area. The Highway Patrol is asking drivers to use caution in the area.

Authorities say a semi-truck crash is affecting traffic on Interstate 29 in southeast South Dakota.

The accident happened early Wednesday morning at mile marker 24 on I-29, between the Elk Point and Vermillion exits.

It is unclear if anyone was hurt in the crash. Authorities have not said what caused the accident.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, northbound lanes of I-29 are closed off due to the accident. Drivers can get around the crash by taking exit 15 (the Elk Point exit), then take SD Highway 11 north about five miles, then take SD Highway 50 west back to the Interstate.
