UPDATE: Police investigating death of infant found in Sioux Falls apartment

Sioux Falls, SD (KSFY) UPDATE, 10:45 a.m. Tuesday:

Police are investigating the death of an infant whose body was found at a Sioux Falls apartment.

According to Public Information Officer Sam Clemens, the body of an 8-month-old boy was found Monday morning at an apartment on West Rice Street. Emergency responders took the child to a Sioux Falls hospital, where the infant was declared dead.

Police are investigating the incident as an "unattended death." Clemens said that's how police classify any death that takes place outside of a medical facility.

"Obviously, we always take a closer look when there's somebody young that ends up dying," Clemens said.

No arrests have been made in the case, and no charges have been filed.

An autopsy will be conducted Tuesday. Clemens said the results of the autopsy will likely determine the course of the investigation. The autopsy could take weeks to complete.
