SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - A Sioux Falls art festival is allowing local veterans and VA employees to show off their artistic side.
Wednesday's Veteran Affairs Arts and Crafts competition was open to anyone enrolled in VA care.
Exhibits ranged from painting to photography to woodworking.
Organizers said using creative arts can act as a form of rehabilitation for veterans dealing with physical and emotional issues.
"I think its a good place for veterans to provide a place of relaxation but also a place to decompress," Sioux Falls VA Chief of Chaplain Service Rochelle Binion said. "They come in and do this artwork, and it gives them an opportunity to decompress, and to just to create something, something beautiful to them."
A handful of winners from the show will have the chance to display their art at the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
