Sioux Falls, S.D. - It’s been a devastating few days for many homeowners and business owners who were impacted by this week’s flooding.
One of those places is the Sioux Falls YMCA Camp Leif Ericson site.
Camp director Mike Murphy said flooding happens a lot because they're right next to the Big Sioux River, but even though they took precautions, the water just rose too quickly.
"This was a pretty devastating experience for us unfortunately,” YMCA Camp Leif Ericson camp director Mike Murphy said. “There was a lot of equipment, a lot of our activities that were submerged and obviously camper safety is our number one goal. So we want to make sure that everything is ready and prepared for them in the spring.”
They’re hoping to have everything back up and running come June when the campers come out.
Murphy said they knew they would need the community’s help. So they set up a GoFundMe page and the support has been overwhelming.
They’ve already raise $20,000 of their $25,000 goal.
