Sioux Falls artist creates new artwork in Cathedral District

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - It took Jillian Gunlicks six hours to design and paint the Sioux Falls Wings that are now off 7th Street in the Cathedral District. The artwork is in between Duluth Avenue and Spring Avenue.

Her friend tagged her in a Facebook post that was searching for an artist to do this project. Adam Weber had the vision for it. Gunlicks said she messaged Weber right away because this type of artwork is something she's been wanting to do. She said the meaning behind it was also inspiring.

The goal is to get people to go to the wings and take a picture with them, then share it on social media using #SiouxFallsWings. There is a card attached to the art, explaining why they are there. It describes art as having the ability to unite people. So the hope is that the wings will uplift and encourage visitors.

The wings are also there to get people to go to the Cathedral District. It was once the heart of Sioux Falls living, but now, not many people experience the area.
