SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - You may soon see electric bikes driving around the Sioux Falls bike trail system.
On Tuesday night, the city council unanimously approved allowing Class 1 e-bikes on the city's trails.
Class 1 e-bikes are pedal-assist only electric bikes with no throttle, and have a maximum speed of 20 mph, according to the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association.
Counselors considered adding speed and other restrictions, but were ultimately satisfied the proposed ordinance's language was specific enough to avoid allowing non-Class-1 e-bike electric vehicles on the trail system.
Supporters argued allowing Class 1 e-bikes will allow more people to enjoy the city's trails.
