SiouxFalls.Business Report: December 4, 2018

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (SIOUXFALLS.BUSINESS) - Jodi Schwan with SiouxFalls.Business stopped by the KSFY Studio to discuss the latest business news:

Those big empty spaces at The Empire Mall are not staying empty for long.

Dillard's, a national department store, has announced it is not only taking over the 100,000-square-foot Younkers space. but it is adding another 40,000 square feet on to the west.

It is a big deal because Dillard's does not have any stores in this region. There are no locations in South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota or Wisconsin.

The plan is to start construction early next year and open in the fall. In the meantime, a temporary tenant is taking the former Sears space.

Camping World is opening there this month and will stay until April, selling campers and outdoor items in an indoor space. Camping World took over Spader RV earlier this year.

We are getting a new look at how the Gage Brothers longtime headquarters might redevelop.

A concept plan shows a wide range of potential uses, with space for hotels, retailers, offices, apartments and restaurants. The site design also allows for pedestrians to walk or bicycle through it and takes advantage of the visibility from Interstate 29.

Gage is in the process of moving to its new headquarters and will be fully out of the old site by early next year. Demolition will start then and there has been interest from potential businesses in locating there although no deals are done yet.

The hope is the new concept plan will give an idea of what is possible.
