Task force votes to keep USD law school in Vermillion

VERMILLION, SD (KSFY) - A task force voted Friday to keep University of South Dakota's School of Law in Vermillion.

The task force, which was chaired by State Representative Mark Mickelson, says it will recommend to President James Abbott a hybrid plan. That plan would include new options for classes in Sioux Falls and online. It will also recommend increasing funding of at least $600,000 a year for programming at the law school.

The task force says it's decision was based on testimony from two previous meetings from students, faculty, law school staff, alumni, community members, lawyers from around the state and outside experts and consultants.

The task force also suggests the school seek private funding for scholarships and recommend offering in-state tuition to select out-of-state candidates.
