SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The owner of The Flower Mill in Sioux Falls, Stacy Schaap, said it's good to fill in the tree with decorations but make sure to leave enough room so that you still see the branches. In a nontraditional tree, she said to try to use decor from your home. You can even use live flowers from your yard. She said spray painting hydrangeas and sticking them in the tree can be an easy and inexpensive way to add some unique decor.
She suggests starting to decorate the tree in a zig zag design with various bigger items. Then, you can fill in the holes with large ball ornaments or pinecones or other decor. Schaap said people should put an odd number of items on the tree. For example, if you're going to put ornament balls on it, then it should be in a group of 3, 5, or 7, etc.
