Tree lighting kicks off holiday season in South Dakota's Capitol

PIERRE, S.D. (KSFY) - A grand lighting ceremony was held in Pierre Tuesday inside the state capitol in the rotunda.

The display includes more than 90 trees decorated by volunteers from communities, schools, churches, nonprofit organizations and state government offices. The theme for this year is "The Colors of Christmas."

The largest tree was decorated by the Fort Pierre Bicentennial Committee, which is a Colorado Blue Spruce. It stands at 24.5 feet tall.

The display will be lit and open to the public from 8:00 AM until 10:00 PM daily through December 27th.
