Victim in 12th & Summit shooting says ricocheted bullet hit his ankle

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Police have released more details in a shooting Saturday night that left one person injured.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said the shooting happened near 12th Street and Summit Avenue when the victim, who is new to town, went for a walk.

The victim told police a silver or a gray car slowed down parallel to him. The passenger then allegedly fired five to eight shots into the ground from the window of the car.

The victim believes he was hit in the ankle when a bullet ricocheted off the ground, Clemens said. He did not receive serious injuries.

A neighbor who was outside during the incident and heard the gunshots called 911. Police did not find any shell casings in the area.

The victim told police he did not know the suspects.
