Fire destroys downtown Watertown bar

WATERTOWN, S.D. (KSFY) - UPDATE, 7 p.m.

Fire officials in Watertown have deemed a building structurally unstable after it caught fire early Thursday morning.

It is possible that the former Harbor Bar will collapse, officials said.

Crews secured the building with barricades and crime scene tape. Officers will be watching the structure to ensure that the tape lines are not crossed.

Any individual or individuals caught crossing this barricade will be immediately arrested.

The fire broke out at Brewskys Bar, formerly known as Harbor Bar, around 5:30 a.m.

No injuries have been reported in connection to the fire.

Crews fighting the fire had to deal with blizzard conditions and wind chills approaching 30 degrees below zero.

UPDATE, 10:00 a.m.

Authorities say a fire has destroyed a bar in downtown Watertown.

The fire broke out at Brewskys Bar, formerly known as Harbor Bar, around 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

According to Watertown Fire Rescue, crews attempted to enter the building but were unable to because of heavy smoke and intense heat. They were forced to fight the fire from the exterior of the building.

Portions of the first floor of the building have collapsed into the basement. Fire is still active in portions of the structure.

Watertown Fire Rescue is asking the public to stay away from the area as the building is likely to collapse.

No injuries have been reported in connection to the fire.
