Woman accused of stealing frozen chicken, stabbing employee

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KSFY) - Police say they tased and arrested a woman after she stabbed a gas station employee over a box of chicken.

Public Information Officer Sam Clemens said 21-year-old Chaely Raye Escamilla, a transient from Sioux Falls, tried to shoplift the frozen chicken from the store in the 4600 block of West 41st Street Friday around 8 a.m.

An employee confronted her outside and was able to take back the box of chicken before he was stabbed with a knife.

A state trooper tracked Escamilla down a few blocks away where she was tased and arrested after threatening the trooper and an officer with the knife, Clemens said.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Officers arrested Escamilla for three counts of aggravated assault and shoplifting.
