Worthington High School band leaves for California to perform in parade

WORTHINGTON, Minn. (KSFY) - Students with the Worthington High School marching band are making their way to Los Angeles, California to take part in the annual Hollywood Christmas Parade.

The 175-member "Spirit of Worthington" Trojan Marching Band started its trek out west Tuesday morning. The parade, which kicks off on Sunday, features bands from around the country, balloons and celebrities.

The group said it has been working very hard to get to this point.

"We got the invitation from the Hollywood Christmas Parade to be a featured parade band, and that began the process of planing our parade for the Hollywood show. We've been doing it the past two years, and we will be marching on the red carpet in just a few short days, and we're really excited about that," Jon Loy, Worthington High School marching band director, said.

"We're practicing extra hard because we're going to be on national TV with our parade in Hollywood, and we just want to be the best we can be, so I feel like we're more than ready," senior Kyle Janssen said.

The parade will air at 7 p.m. on December 15 on the CW.
