Augustana baseball climbs nine spots in national poll

PEMBROKE, N.C. – After a weekend in which the Augustana baseball team claimed their first regular season NSIC Championship, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Top 25 poll took notice of the Vikings' triumphs as they jumped up nine spots this week to No. 16.

The Vikings outscored Upper Iowa during the past weekend 46-5 over the course of three games. Last week's NCAA Regional Rankings placed the Vikings in a second-place tie with St. Cloud State, and the teams continue to vie for positioning in the national rankings, with the Huskies landing just one spot ahead of the Vikings.

Augustana and St. Cloud State are the only NSIC schools included in the national rankings, with Minnesota State receiving votes. Angelo State is the top-ranked team in the national poll.

The Vikings begin the NSIC Tournament on Thursday against Winona State in their quest to repeat as conference tournament champions.
