NEW YORK - South Dakota State's prolific receiving tandem of tight end Dallas Goedert and wide receiver Jake Wieneke were each honored Thursday on the 2016 Associated Press Football Championship Subdivision All-America Team.
A junior from Britton, Goedert leads all FCS tight ends with a single-season school-record 92 receptions for 1,293 yards and 11 touchdowns in earning first-team honors. He caught a touchdown pass in each of the Jackrabbits' first six games, including tying a school and Missouri Valley Football Conference single-game record with four touchdown receptions Oct. 1 against Western Illinois. Goedert tallied 100 or more yards receiving seven times during the 2016 campaign.
Wieneke was honored on the AP FCS All-America Team for the third time in as many seasons after hauling in 78 catches for 1,316 yards and tying for the subdivision lead with 16 touchdown receptions en route to third-team recognition. He topped the 100-yard mark eight times and caught two or more touchdowns in a game six times in 2016. Wieneke's 16 touchdown receptions tied his own single-season school and MVFC records.
A junior from Maple Grove, Minnesota, Wieneke was a second-team All-America selection in 2014 and a first-team honoree in 2015.
South Dakota State finished the 2016 season with a 9-4 overall record and made its fifth consecutive appearance in the FCS playoffs. The Jackrabbits also won their first Missouri Valley Football Conference regular season title, posting a 7-1 mark in league play.
