DALLAS—South Dakota alumna Nicole Seekamp has signed with the Dallas Wings of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) as announced Monday afternoon. Seekamp just completed her second season with the Adelaide Lightning of the Women’s National Basketball League in Australia.
A 2016 graduate of South Dakota, Seekamp graduated ranked second all-time for points (2,056), assists (628) and steals (265) at USD. She was the 2015-16 Summit League Player of the Year and a two-time Summit League Tournament MVP, leading the Coyotes’ to the program’s first NCAA Tournament appearance in 2014 and the Women’s National Invitational Tournament championship in 2016.
“I am super excited to be invited to the Dallas Wings training camp!” said Seekamp. “It has been a dream of mine for a very long time and a goal since graduating from USD. I would like to thank everyone at South Dakota who has supported me throughout my career. From coaches, teammates, professors, the entire athletic department and of course all of the USD fans!”
A native of Renmark, South Australia, Seekamp has played professionally the past three seasons in Australia and Poland. She also played with Australia’s national team, the Opals, at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
“Nicole is a player we have been watching for some time and we have been impressed by her performances at the Commonwealth Games and during the WNBL season,” said Dallas Wings President and CEO Greg Bibb. “Nicole will add size to our backcourt as she competes for a roster spot during training camp. We are excited to have her join us in May.”
With the Lightning this past season, Seekamp averaged 12.2 points, five rebounds and six assists in leading Adelaide back to the WNBL Grand Final for the first time in over 10 years.
