Former Olympian gives back to local volleyball players

Several local volleyball players are having the opportunity of a life time this season to learn from one of the best at the sport.
Two-time Olympic medalist Courtney Thompson comes out a few times a year to Sioux Falls to help coach the Sanford Pentagon Volleyball Academy, assisting with all age groups.
In addition to winning a silver medal in 2012 and a bronze in 2016 in the Olympic games, Thompson is also a graduate from the University of Washington, where she led her team to a national championship in 2005.
Despite only being at a limited amount of practices, she often emails to communicate with the progression of players. She hopes to bring what she can to the court to make a positive impact in these player's lives.
"I didn't know anyone who competed in the Olympics when I was growing up. So I think it's a fun opportunity in that way, and hopefully it can remind them you're not super human to do these things and to dream big. I'm not much taller than a lot of them, so it's fun and hopefully it makes their dreams a little more realistic," she said.
