(KSFY) - Longtime South Dakota State University head football coach John Stiegelmeier will continue leading the team for several more years.
Steigelmeier and the university agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension to keep him on the sidelines through the 2023 season.
According to SDSU, Stiegelmeier has compiled a 158-99 career record in his 22 seasons at the school. He posted a winning record 18 times, including 13 of 15 seasons at the Division I level.
The winningest coach in program history, Stiegelmeier has led the Jackrabbits to nine or more wins in six of the last seven seasons, including consecutive 10-win seasons in 2017 and 2018.
"I want to thank President Barry Dunn and Justin Sell for their belief and faith in me," Stiegelmeier said. "I have been blessed beyond measure to serve as the head football coach at South Dakota State University. Laurie and I are looking forward to the next five years and the many accomplishments that lie ahead."
Stiegelmeier is a Selby native, and graduated from SDSU in 1979.
