For the second week in a row, South Dakota State running back Pierre Strong, Jr. has been selected as the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week.
Strong, a redshirt freshman from Little Rock, Arkansas, rushed 17 times for 253 yards (14.9 ypc) and scored three touchdowns as the Jackrabbits raced past in-state rival South Dakota, 49-27, on Nov. 17 at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium. He opened the scoring with 30-yard touchdown run on the initial drive of the game and added a 73-yard scoring run later in the first quarter. He capped the scoring with a 46-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Strong's 253 yards were the 10th-most in a game in school history. He has topped the century mark each of the last three weeks and now leads the team in rushing with 777 yards – 577 of which have come in November games.
SDSU, 8-2 overall, received a first-round bye in the upcoming Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. The Jackrabbits, who are making their seventh consecutive postseason appearance, will host the winner of the first-round matchup between Duquesne and Towson.
