Stampede's Johnson Named USHL Defenseman of the Week

Sioux Falls, S.D. – The United States Hockey League (USHL) announced Monday that Ryan Johnson has been named Defenseman of the Week after posting three points (1g, 2a) and a plus-2 rating over the weekend.

The Irvine, Calif. native tallied his first USHL goal and two assists in the 6-5 overtime victory over the Waterloo Black Hawks on Friday. Johnson provided the game-winning assist to Cade Borchardt with a minute remaining in overtime. On Saturday, Johnson registered four shots on goal and was a plus-1 in the Stampede’s 2-1 win over Madison. He leads all USHL rookie defensemen in scoring with four points (1g, 3a) on the year.

Johnson is committed to the University of Minnesota hockey program and was recently listed on the NHL Central Scouting Preliminary.

Players to Watch list as a B-rated skated, meaning his a potential 2nd or 3rd round selection for the 2019 NHL Draft. He is also the son of former NHL forward Craig Johnson who skated in over 500 career NHL games over 10 seasons.

Prior to joining the Stampede, Johnson skated with the Anaheim Jr. Ducks 16U program where he posted 45 points (12g, 33a) in 35 games last season.

The Stampede return to action this weekend with a home-and-home series with I-29 rival Sioux City. The Herd hosts the Musketeers Friday, October 26 and travel down to Sioux City the following evening.

Friday night is trick-or-treat night with the Stampede. Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes to the game and trick-or-treat inside the main concourse from 6 PM until puck drop. They can also take part in the costume parade on the ice during the 2nd intermission. Puck drop is 7:05 PM and tickets are available through the PREMIER Center or any Ticketmaster outlet.
