DENVER—South Dakota senior middle blocker Taylor Wilson had a match-high 24 kills while fellow senior Hayley Dotseth added 17 more as the Coyotes downed top-seeded Denver in a five-set thriller to secure the program's first berth to the NCAA Division I Tournament. Scores went 27-25, 24-26, 19-25, 25-21, 15-6.
Wilson, who was named tournament MVP, posted just one error during the match and hit .511 (24-1-45). She was joined on the all-tournament team by Dotseth and redshirt-freshman setter Madison Jurgens, who had 48 assists, a team-high 20 digs and three blocks in the championship match.
South Dakota (21-9) handed Denver (27-2) its second loss of the season and first since opening weekend. The Pioneers had won 25 consecutive matches entering Sunday's final. They had also won the last four Summit League Tournaments.
The Coyotes are going dancing for the third time in program history and for the first time since 2007. USD began its transition to Division I in 2008 and joined the Summit League in 2011.
