Sertoma Butterfly House to host an out-of-this-world event

SIOUX FALLS - The Sertoma Butterfly House and Marine Cove is going to have some extra-terrestrial visitors Saturday.

It's an intergalactic get-together of costumed characters, as heroes, villains, princes and princesses make an appearance for a good cause.

Sertoma Butterfly House and Marine Cove executive director Audrey Willard said "we are a very special non-profit organization here in town. All of our funding comes from admissions and membership sales, and we also do fun fundraisers like this throughout the year. We don't receive funding from the city or state, so all of these special events help keep up our operations."

The Intergalactic Fundraiser will be an out-of-this-world event.

"It's going to be a fun, family fundraiser event. We're going to have characters from Star Wars, Marvel Comics, Disney princesses, pretty much any fantasy character you can think of. We're going to have activities, crafts, and snacks, just to get everybody out and have some fun. This is winter time, we need something different do, it's a great place to come and do something different," Willard said.

The idea for the Intergalactic Fundraiser was inspired by Willard and her husband Kory's appreciation for all things Star Wars.

"We know the 501st Legion, they're a group of characters from Star Wars who put on their costumes and do events like this for charity purposes. We started talking with them, asked them if they were interested and they said 'yes, let's do it.' This is our third year having the Intergalactic Fundraiser," Willard said.

Even if you're not into star wars, have no fear, all characters are welcome at the Sertoma Butterfly House fundraiser. Everyone is encouraged to dress up and have fun, while supporting the work that it does at the facility.
